PCERA 2000
Children and Youth at Risk

PCERA 2000 - The topic for research featured in the second PCERA symposium, held in Ottawa in April 2000, was "Children and Youth at Risk." In addition to serving as a forum for various stakeholders in education, the symposium sought to expand our understanding of the "at-risk" concept, share and disseminate current research findings, and promote new research in this area.

A summary of the proceedings, including a synthesis document written by Robert Crocker of Memorial University, is documented in Children and Youth at Risk: The Symposium Report.

Ten research papers were commissioned from experts on various aspects of children and youth at risk. These were presented under three session topics:

Session 1: How do we define "at risk"?
Session 2: What do we know about at-risk children and youth?
Session 3: What are specific at-risk populations facing?
